Got pizza delivered this afternoon - great thin-crust NY style pizza, nice staff. Yum!

Ummm chicken parm.....BREADED chicken mozzarella and tomato sauce. Somehow they think chicken parm is GRILLED chicken with cheese and sauce. Very disappointed. How do u mess that up?

A Key West must... authentic Philly cheesesteaks and tasty pizza, awesomely fresh and delicious french fries, and the guys behind the counter are a respectful and decent bunch. Located a few blocks from the epicenter of the bar scene, but not too far to stagger.

Went here every night during a 3 day stay after drinking all night. The cheesesteaks are the best drunk food you will EVEar eat. Idk what they put in the cheese concoction that goes on top, but holy SHEET! I think they may put crack it in. It's addictive!!! :)

Best Philly Cheese stake I have ever had in my life. These guys work hard and they know damn well how to make an amazing grinder/pizza! *** UPDATE Amazing Chicken Parm Grinder too!!!!

Your typical "middle of the night, hunger pain satisfying, drunk but hungry, cash only great eats" kind of place Though I am not your typical "lets get trashed and pig out during the middle of the night" kinda of guy, but when occasion does arise, Mr Z's is the medicine the doctor ordered. The pizza is truly delicious, but the sandwiches are the "go to" dish; especially the hot sandwiches (each one is better than the last). My personal favorite is the chicken parmesan, then again the classic cheesesteak is damn good too, hmmm but so is the meatball and the sausage & peppers. And now you have witnessed what happens to me every time we order; it's true I am indecisive, but it's worse here because I actually like everything. I recommend ordering a variety and share with others and try a bit of everything (you'll thank me for the advice later). Mr Z's (old town) is located at a very busy intersection of Southard Street just off of Duval but there is plenty of parking except during special events; during special events I'd say good luck parking or try the other location on North Roosevelt Boulevard (new town). And of course they deliver but you better be patient (delivery for anything in Key West is slow).

Mr. Z's makes for a great place to find a late night bite in KW. We come down at least once each year, but always for the KW Songwriters Festival in early May. Once the shows let out, it's usually after 11:00 and food options have dwindled. We swing by Mr. Z's for some slices every time and we're good to go. The pizza is very good and it comes out fast. The staff has always been very friendly in spite of my Mets cap. (They are a Philly-centric store, as the decorations on the walls indicate.) This is a nice place to hang out and watch the people walk by or, if you prefer, grab something for take-out and walk Duval Street, which is just around the corner.

We've spent years trying to find good pizza delivery in KW. Mr. Z's fits the bill. The pizza is fantastic (love the red sauce) and the sandwiches are super fresh. I love the Italian Sub. I was surprised how ripe the tomatoes were on the sammies. Really good - don't pass it up!

  • Danielle J.

I really don't understand why this place has such good reviews! I has pizza almost daily on the way through the keys, this was the worst! Look past the pot smokers and homeless congregating outside, tupac blaring inside and rude employees why don't greet you and it's still a hot mess. The pizza was undercooked and the cheese was crap. Never again, go to Only Wood for an authentic pizza pie or Paradise pizza instead.

I live in NYC and would put their pizza on the high end of the spectrum of any pizza that I've had there. Definitely worth a stop

Stayed seven days in KW, last three eating exclusively at Mr Z's! We've been 3am regulars for years, on our crawl back to our hotel after a evening downtown. This year we stopped in for lunch ...... and we were hooked! Known for there cheese steaks (amazing) but there's so much more. Meatball - OMG. Pork Italiano - WOW. Pork Roll - DA BEST. Chicken Parm - GREAT. Not breaded, you actually taste the chicken and not the bread crumbs! Pizza - We always order our pizza well done and it's still limp, greasy ... just a mess. NOT Mr Z's - crispy crust, full of flavor! (We'll work on the rest of the menu next trip!) The staff is great. Friendly during the day, at night those guys work their a#* off to satisfy the crowd. We can't comment on delivery since we never had it but will add this ... this is a small place that cranks out a amazing amount of fresh, hot, quality food. You owe it to yourself to eat it the second it comes out of the oven. Second thought - Mr Z do you deliver to Lake Worth Fl? We'll wait at the door for eight hours (four hour trip) for a cheese steak and chicken parm!

We got take out one night, I was good, not great but good.

Just had delivery from here...if you're in Key West, HURRY AND ORDER THE CHEESESTEAK SANDWICH! Honestly, the best sandwich I've ever had. Delivery was fast and everything was nice and hot. They do take credit cards.

  • Taylor S.

Pizza came after 1h 10min......cold, soggy, no cheese??WTF??. Giving it 2 stars for the nice delivery guy. Go to "Duetto" instead.

1/2 off locals last day of the month!!! This must be my thank you for all the other days I eat here!! Try the Pork roll or the philly cheese steak stromboli.

  • William T.

I can't say anything about the pizza. But, the cheese steak and the cold ham and cheese sandwiches were well done. I opted to pay the extra buck for the sharp provolone on the cheese steak I know that this doesn't count as "wit" in Philly. But, it was top notch. The size was right-on for the price. The fries with the cheese on the side was liked by all.

    (4)
  • Tracy A.

Phenomenal philly cheesesteaks just off Duval. I am sure they are even better at 3am/. The melted american cheese philly was incredible. Be prepared to wait in line and sweat buckets in the summer. It's worth the wait. I'll be back next time I'm in Key West.

One of the best Philly Cheese Steak places I have ever gone to and it's in Florida !!! Key West can't possibly make good Philly Cheese.... (ALSO A STOP TO GET YOUR LATE NIGHT GRUB ON) YEAH STOP WHATEVER YOU ARE THINKING TRUSTTTTTTT ME IT'S VERY VERY VERY GOOD. Like slap your mama, testify in church, catch the holy ghost lip smacking good. My GF looked this place up on Yelp and navigated me here late night, I was dying of hunger and had to get something to eat before I hit up a few local bars. Walked in and they had the NBA Playoffs on, not only were they belting out food extremely fast left and right they were also paying attention to the game and talking about it amongst themselves and with the customers LOVED THAT. There was even this hammered drunk family that came in a young girl and guy with their father and they were hilarious the banter between them and the staff was great kept me laughing while I was waiting for my food. Like i said they were literally "belting out food at a fast pace" I got my order within like 5 minutes. I ended up getting obviously the signature dish Philly CheeseSteak and the French Fries which comes in one size and yes it is very huge just as advertised. (great value) The cheese steak was just absolutely amazing, it was so good that I debated on getting another one but I realized if I had done that I might not be able to move and go out because it was so good and so filling. PLEASE KEEP IT UP MR. Z'S keep doing what you are doing and that's how a staff should be, enjoying themselves while providing quality food and engaging with the customers in a friendly way.

Awesome Tomato Pie! We're from Texas and don't get Philly style pizza very often. We ate it twice in one week! Can't wait to go back.

  • L L.

This was a small place without tables... and we sat at the counters against the wall fir our cheese steaks. We enjoyed them. The food was reasonably priced and tasty. Having been living in Philly for a while, I would still think some of the food-stands outside of the Liberty towers in downtown Philly were still better (at least psychologically). Some of the more famous Philly cheese places in Philly are definitely better than Mr. Z. Nevertheless, this is a great place in town for a good pizza and cheese steak sandwich in Key West.

    (3)
  • Pablo C.

had the philly cheesesteak....very well made...but would've like a little more steak in my sandwich... wifey had the cold cut sub...really close to new York deli taste

    (4)
  • Rachel A.

Hands down the best cheesesteak I have ever had !!! The pizza showed me what I have been missing in California . And the Stromboli ? I had no idea what I was missing. Don't leave this island without eating here. It is change your life good.

  • Maria K.

The best mistake EVER! I walked in here desperate to use their restroom. They kindly made me feel at home and mission was accomplished. But it didn't end there!! The aroma caught my attention and the pizza looked too great. So my friends and I ordered a slice and WOW it was the best pizza Ive had in years.(seriously!) In no time we walked out with 2 large pizzas and the steak & cheese sub. Goodness the sub was outstanding! Why can't we have a Mr. Z's in Miami? Next time I drive to key west I'll set my navigation to Mr. Z's!

  • Cheryl G.

Best cheese steak I have ever had.

  • Brian E.

Awesome hot Italian sandwich. I don't even eat broccoli and they have some inside this pork sandwich, and it tasted GREAT! This place isn't much for ambiance as I ended up standing next to the drink fridge using it as my table, but everyone that I was with loved the food and I'll definitely be going back. Great find!

    (4)
  • Tracy S.

Legit Philly cheese stakes in Key West and we would know because we are from Philly! Thank you Mr. Z for moving to KW and serving the best pizza and stake sandwiches on the island. I have been coming to Key West for a few years and this place is a must eat for me every time.

    (5)
  • Dennis M.

Honestly, one of(maybe) the best steak and cheese subs I've had in my life. I'm from the northeast, we know steak subs. These things are good!!! Strongly recommended. Steak and cheese with mushrooms and banana peppers.

  • Mark S.

not sure what happened to this place - I used to bring people here to eat because the philly's were so good - been coming to key west for 15 years and 4 years ago this was the best philly cheese steak i have ever had and the service was good - went last year and the cheesesteak was not good and tonight it was worse and the service was horrible. young boy with tatooed neck should not have a job period let alone service industry. I will not be back here and will be surprised to see mr Z's in business in a year unless its because there are just not enough places to eat

    (1)
  • Sarah S.

Good New York style pizza. Also has good philly cheese steaks. Reasonably priced and quick service.

    (5)
  • Andrew J.

I stop by Mr.Z's for a slice of pepperoni pizza and a beer every time I go to Key West. It's the perfect quick, cheap pit stop when you're out drinking in Old Town.

    (3)
  • Billy R.

Not sure why there are positive reviews. This place was mediocre at best. Cheesesteaks thin and lacking flavor. Pizza is pretty dull. Staff seemed indifferent. Stay away!

I lived in Marathon in the Florida Keys which is about an hour outside of KW. Every single time I went down to KW to do anything Mr Z's was always a must. I'm even guilty of making the 2.5 hour round trip drive just to go to Mr Z's. I never had their pizza there, but their cheese steak is beyond incredible. I consider myself a connoisseur of cheese steaks. I've had them in Philly and probably close to 40 different restaurants. This is the best cheese steak I have ever had any where. There is a secret to the Mr Z's cheese steak though. You ABSOLUTELY have to get their white cheese fondue. If you put any other cheese or chez whiz on your philly you are missing out on the entire experience. I unfortunately do not live in the keys any longer. I still make the trek down to the there atleast 2 or 3 times a year though, and Mr Z's always seems to be the highlight of my trip!

  • Jenny S.

The guy behind the counter taking our order was extremely rude. I asked for green peppers on my chicken cheese steak and he said the owner wouldn't allow it. Wtf? I thought he was trying to be funny but he was totally serious and had a major attitude about it. Waited out front until it was ready and the entire time he was talking to the other employees about how we didn't leave a tip. Didn't even give us an opportunity to tip before trash talking their customers. I would normally tip after the food was prepared and handed to me. The other couple we were with were so upset over the incredibly poor customer service that they said so to the guy. He didn't say anything. Cheese steak was okay but ive had way better. Very disappointed and dissatisfied with experience. Go anywhere but here!

  • AaronErin D.

Not much to say other than WOW. Such a great place to order from no matter what time of the day it is. The cheesesteak Stromboli is to die for. Be sure to remember they do take a while to cook. The portions are very generous but are so good you may not want to share. Being from South Jersey originally it is very hard to find a place in Florida that offers the "real deal" cheesesteak. This is also a great place to end up after hanging on Duval Street all night. Be sure to check it out.

    (5)
  • Jake L.

A perfect late night (open until 4am!!) drunken pigout spot. And in case you blacked out on the way back to the hotel and forgot to pop in.....they deliver late night as well! The cheesesteak is absolutely perfect. Skip the slice. It's a tiny place right off duval and there is often a line out the door, but whatever the wait its worth it. Ice cold beer on tap as well. A must do anytime I'm in the area...

    (4)
  • Debra B.

    Good Pizza. Nothing spectacular.

    (3)
  • Joe W.

Overpriced, and hot. They definately want to sell by volume here, and not the customer satisfaction. This place has been held afloat over the years by a quick bite to eat when you have the munchies after walking about of the various bars on Duval. Avoid this place, and just hit one of the street vendors selling hot dogs, or sausages. Just across from Mr. Z's a new place called 4 Buoys has opened up. If they can speed up there service, I really think 4 Buoys will take the business away from Mr.Z's.

    (2)
  • Marie V.

Mr. Z's tomato pie is quite possibly the best pizza I've ever had in my life. There's really nothing more to say.

    (5)
  • Anthony R.

Pizza is very good, disappointed that slices are only cheese or pepperoni. Still really good. My wife had the pizza but I had cheesesteak with new spicy provolone. Definitely very good and decent price and value for everything. Would definitely recommend over Angelinos on Duval.

  • Garrett H.

On a recent trip to Key West, a few friends and I ordered cheesesteaks for delivery. We were told it would "about 45 minutes, 50 max" when I placed the order. After an hour had passed, I placed another call to check if everything was ok. The person who picked up the phone on the other end picked up the phone, then simply placed it on the counter, without answering. I could hear what was going on in the shop, but no one was on the other end of the phone. After 15 more minutes I tried calling back and the shop was not answering the phone at all. I tried calling periodically, every 10 minutes or so, but no one answered. Finally after over 2 hours of waiting, the delivery driver finally showed up. I can understand if a shop is busy it can take a while for delivery - but at least give the customer a realistic expectation when placing an order. Also, it's not too much to ask that someone answer the phone. I would never order from this place again. Based on their non-existent customer service, this place deserves to be out of business.

  • Chris R.

A total dive but amazing. This is the best cheese steak I've had in my entire life. They use Amoroso rolls shipped in from Philly and have their own house cheese blend that is amazing (and they don't rip you off on the cheese either).

  • Jeff C.

I'm so glad I found Mr. Z's. After paying at least $100 per meal during our Key West honeymoon, my wife and I were in the mood for something simple and inexpensive from a place that would deliver to our hotel. Thank you, Yelp, for pointing me in the direction of this place. We got a sausage-and-onion pizza and a cheese steak. Both were delicious, and I certainly was not expecting to find a place with a delicious, legitimate Philly cheese steak (with Cheez Whiz and all) in south Florida. And best of all, the total was $22. Two days later, after a day spent drinking at the hotel's pool bar, we ordered from Mr. Z's again. This time, we got the hot dog, some cheese fries and a roast pork sandwich. As far as I can remember, all of these selections were delicious as well. Mr. Z's, you have this Philadelphia native's seal of approval.

As a kid growing up in the philly area, cheesesteaks are close to my heart. These guys do a fairly decent job making an authentic one. The meat is moist, bread is chewy and the cheese is gooey. There is not much to not love about it. Throw some mushrooms and onions on there and you've got a meal. The pizza which I've tried once was pretty good. I always get mine extra hot to get the crunch factor. I like the ambiance, no frills, old school pizza shop feel with the guys behind the counter throwing pizza and attitude all at once. A lil piece of Philly in Key West to make all of us east coast transplants a bit more comfortable. Bring cash though, no cards at this location, $10 minimum in new town, but they don't have beer.

    (4)
  • James B.

I'm an avid cheesesteak eater and have to say this Mr. Z's is good, but NOT great. The food is good, but the service is less than average. I called and tried to place an order and asked them to hold for a second, literally seconds, to check my order and said what I would like and no one answered. Called back and got the order, but you have to stay on the line with your customer until they finish their order. I shouldn't have to call back. Do not come here if you are looking for good service and quality food.

  • Patrick B.

Great Philly atmosphere. Hole in the wall restaurant. Huge fries portions. Cheesesteaks were great! Very friendly staff

    (5)
  • Joseph H.

we stopped at Mr. Z's because we heard it was an authentic cheese steak straight outta Philly. I'm down for anything dub'd authentic so i wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. I saw....and it was just OK. I was hoping for or expecting some earth moving event, but all that happened was the cheese whiz made it a congealed sandwich of steak-um and goo. The meat was flavorful, i think the whiz was too much. The pizza at Mr. Z's was pretty aight, my kids dug it, i fancy its closer to the Sabrino's pizza in a large mall over authentic Philly style pizza. The dude with the dreads had an authentic Philly attitude, read into that what u will.

  • Noe N.

This is a pretty decent pizza place. We ordered a bunch of pizza and caesar salad for everyone at work and it was really tasty. The vegetarian pizza was my favorite! Broccoli on pizza? Yes. The caesar was good too. Try it!

  • David C.

Surprisingly not bad pizza, considering it's tossed by some boys from Philly. This was the third stop on our Duval Pizza Crawl, and the appropriately cramped tile interior inspired the most wistful memories of a New York childhood and the brilliant slices contained therein. These slices are shorter than those of yore, with unstable cheese roofs and mouth blistering hot lakes of sauce. The crust is decent. They've got yuengling and bud on tap, and four out of six fountain sodas were operational. Mostly, they succeed relative to their peers by not being awful. Ranked only slightly below Upper Crust due to lack of variety. Close proximity to The Cafe means that if you are dying of bleached flour and greasy cheese poisoning, you can go get some fibrous veggies or vegan cookies and endeavor to keep yourself regular. Overall result of Duval Pizza Crawl Score Cards: 27.25/50. Fourth Place.

It's been awhile since I went but every once and awhile I still think about the best Philly Cheese steak I've ever had. You must go if your in key west

    (5)
  • Steven D.

If you are sober, there are way better pizza places in Key West. If you are stumbling around Duval and Southard late night after bar hopping and are hungry because the kitchen at the bar you were just at closed, Mr. Z's will feel like the best you have ever had. I have eaten a slice of cheese pizza and at another time have eaten a cheesesteak with extra cheese drunk as hell and fell in love. After the second visit I decided to eat there for lunch a couple weeks later and was very disappointed. I went again thinking they just had a bad day. Sober stay way! Drunk, hell yeah!

    (2)
  • Jordan V.

Mr. Z's is impressively the best Philly Cheesesteak this far south from Philly! The Owner is from Philadelphia, but the namesake is actually from New Jersey. Nonetheless, the restaurant maintains authenticity by offering Armoroso bread delivered from Philly, and they offer Cheese Wiz, or melted monterey jack cheese! The staff itself is great, exactly what you expect from a location like this. Food arrives timely, and everything, except the pizza, is made to order. They have a microwave in the restaurant, but I don't order anything that would be microwaved. Inside the restaurant will fit about 8-10 people uncomfortably, so this is not a sit down type of joint. If you are down on duval, I HIGHLY recommend finding this place, and having a Cheesesteak, and some fries! I guarantee you will want to go back!

    (5)
  • Roman C.

Damn good pizza, especially when you're drunk. Also by far the best Philly cheesesteaks south of jersey.

    (4)
  • Brian D.

Philly, american, onions, shrooms. - bein from Chicago i was a skeptic but man was it gooey and good. Hit it up for a philly and a beer. Screw the whiz do the american thats how its done! Good job!

  • Barb G.

I have been down to Key West several times and always make Mr Z's a required stop to get my fix of either a Philly Cheese Steak or a Stromboli. Not only is the staff make you feel like your a welcomed local but the decor is so cool, it makes it feel like your in philly. It's a great stop if your craving for a pizza at 2 am, after you got your drink on. The best by far in old-town, I tell everyone I know to check the place out when they are in the keys, if they want fantastic food at an affordable price.

My fiance had stayed at the Pegasus his last time in Key West so he had the great good fortune of having Mr. Z's just downstairs. We were wandering Duval St and still hungry after having stopped earlier for oysters and clams so we hit Mr. Z's. There wasn't a seat in the place but we just ordered our food, took it across the street and rested on some steps. I had a cheese slice and it was fab! Made me want more. So the next night when we decided to stay in, we had a pizza and a cheesesteak delivered. Yes, bless their souls Mr. Z's delivers. The pizza was pepperoni this time and just as good. I would like a little more flavor in the sauce but the crust and cheese were so good I didn't miss it too much. The star of the show this time was that cheesesteak. The meat and cheese were exactly right (coming from a girl who grew up just outside of Philly). To me the roll wasn't exactly what it should have been but it was darned close. I wanted another cheesesteak before we left but unfortunately when my fiance went over on Friday night, the line was out the door. So I had to leave Key West without tasting heaven again. If you go, make sure you have cash as they do not take credit or debit cards.

Big, big, BIG fan of Mr. Z's. This place is great, whether it is in the middle of the day for lunch, or at 4am for some late night eats. The pizza is good and two slices with a can of soda will only cost you $6. However, what you really need to treat yourself to is a Philly Cheese Steak with American, mushrooms, and onions. Oh my god. Don't forget to put some hot sauce on there as well. Try it with Whiz as well. They're both good, but there is something great about the American they use. Yum!

  • Art C.

I like it. The most telling thing about a pizza or cheesesteak place is how busy they are, and these guys were rocking. We had cheesesteaks with provolone, and 2 orders of fries, and it fed 3 teenaged boys and 2 adults. It was a bargain. The fries were nice and crispy, and the cheesesteaks wonderful. Despite how busy they were, it only took 10 minutes to walk out with my order. They have a couple bar stools, but the place is't really designed for eating in; a definite take out establishment. It goes on my list of cheap eats in Key West.

    (4)
  • JM T.

Ordered a cheesesteak and large pizza for delivery from Mr Zs. The pizza was ok, but not great. However the cheesesteak left a lot to be desired. It is nothing like a Philly cheesesteak... not to mention they claim they are like Philly but don't understand when you order an american wit! Go to the Rum Barrel if you want a really good cheesesteak!

Love this spot. Must hit for late night eats in key west. Cheesesteaks and pizza slices both rock!

  • Ks K.

If you are desperate for chows, late night (they're open til 4am) or just too tired from whatever activities in KW that wore you out, this will keep your stomach from revolution. Chicken cheesesteak good, sometimes toasted, sometimes not. Regular cheesesteak sometimes tender, sometimes not. Both offered with "whiz" as in white cheese whiz. Mushrooms & onions are good, however these meat-eating boys cannot comprehend "veggie only"- we just got the meat on the side-fed it to the dog.

So after some drunken antics, my buddy and I stumbled upon this place and ordered a large plain pie ($12). Perhaps it was the intoxication, however the pizza tasted exactly like the pizza I grew up on in South Jersey. Wow. The following morning, after sharing my experience with those that were not awake they opted to get a pizza. I chose a cheese steak this time. I was wowed yet again by the similarity to the Philadelphia area. The pizza was slightly crispy but chewy. The sauce was your typical red pizza sauce, nothing short of great. Just the right amount of mozzarella. Oh an the grease, lots and lots of grease! Now for the real acid test. I been to places all over and tried cheese steaks from all over. This place had the closest thing (thus far) to a real Philly cheese steak ($6.50). They nailed the most important part, the roll. Maybe they get them from Philly, maybe they cracked the recipe on how to make one. Second great option, they have the wiz. If you don't know what that is or have never had it, go with provolone. Both are delicious. Add in shaved meat and onions fried to perfection and you have a tasty cheese steak. I also tried the fries which were surprisingly good too. Last bit of info, this place is bare bones. Not many choices on the menu but enough to satisfy. They have beer and sides. They also have my business until I leave town.

Simply ok. The people there are nice and the prices are fair. Meatball sub took 30 minutes which seemed a little long. Go here for a cheap bite to eat.

    Great cheese pizza!

  • Andy M.

I love Mr. Z's cheesesteaks. I do not love the 30 minute wait for a full pizza when there are multiple pies available. The excuse was they were single slices. Not impressed.

Best pizza in KeyWest!!! Great & fun staff, local spot, best philly cheese steak in the freakin WORLD!

    (5)
  • Jason G.

Mr. Z's Pizza is the quintessential late night pizza in Key West, I've come to find out. Sure, there are a lot of pizza joints in Key West serving all the drunk revelers, but this one was my favorite. It's very New York thin crust pizza style. All the grease you love without that doughy taste. Service is fine and fast. There's not much room to sit down and enjoy here, just some standup counters if you don't want to walk home while you eat. I went to a few pizza places while in Key West, and this one had the best prices and best quality pizza.

  • Nikki H.

Nothing fancy just good pizza! Also had the cheese fries and I liked that cheese was on the side. Business hours are also amazing! Only downfall was delivery took an hour and the guy answering the phone didn't seem very hospitable. I Would order from them again.

I had a chance to visit Mr Z's, a highly recommended spot for Authentic Philly Cheese steak while visiting in Key West and for sure I came to the right place. I ordered 1 cheese steak and ate it there and it was so good I ordered another one to go for later. They use the freshest quality hoagie rolls from Philadelphia's own Amoroso' s Baking Company. I saw the boxes stacked in the Kitchen with my own eyes so I know this to be true. It's a very small place with a counter along the wall and I expect it could be very busy with lines during late night hours , but I was there on a Mid-week afternoon and the service was top quality. I was so impressed with the quality of the food , the Service I even purchased one of their Tie Dyed T-Shirts and will wear it proudly. They even had my size which is rare.

Late night stop for Philly cheesesteaks that were fantastic!! I wasn't even hungry and ended up eating half of my husbands. It is cash only and there is not a ton of seating but it's worth stopping by. Next time I can't wait to eat the cheese fries because the cheese was off the chain good.

If you're looking for eats on Duval after midnight--- this is probably the only place open off of middle of Duval street. All others like Jack Flatts are gonna have their kitchen closed. Be warned though, this place is tiny and the line will be really really long. They serve Pepsi products which satisfied my friend's quest for a drink of Mountain Dew which most seemed not to carry. The famous Philly Cheesesteak was really really good! The chicken parmesan sub was good, but I probably wouldn't order that again as it took much longer to cook than the rest of our orders. Weird. I'd come back when I get hungry after partying on the north side of Duval and am walking my way south to my hotel if it is on that end.

I don't understand what's the hype about this place. The pizza was okay. But I've had better. And the same goes for their fries, which came in two paper plates so some of the fries hit the floor before they made it to the table... The place is really cramped. The bathroom is a closet. As for customer service it was alright. The guys working here seemed as if they hated their jobs though.

Yeah, my husband really loved your meatball pizza. He's never had anything like that before. You guys used like actual meatballs and were cut up. Huge pieces of meatballs. Was great. The 2nd location had these tiny round balls on the pizza. Almost looked like a sausage pizza. A bit disappointed. But no worries, next time in Key West we will not make that mistake again and go to the original spot.

After reading the reviews on here, I decided to give them a try and I have to say, they didn't dissapoint. I had the cheese steak with wiz and onions and a cheese fry. Both were really good. The bread was soft, meat was good and cheese was good. Definately a good place to go. Prices are good and portions are big!

My rating on their cheese steaks can fluctuate between a 4 star and 5 star depending on how late in the night it is and how much I've had to drink. The steak cheese steaks are decent but I am a little more partial to the chicken cheese steaks myself. Their pizza isn't really remarkable imo so I usually stick with the cheese steaks. This place is one of my favorite late night grab and go places in key west to get food to help soak up all the alcohol from the nights festivities. The whole operation is very small so don't go here expecting to find much in the way of seating. I think they have about 5 stools against one wall with a little half ledge to eat off of. The deliver also but I've never used the delivery service myself. If you are in key west though you should definitely try this place out at least once to say you've been there.

Pizza was really good. I do not remember it being this good a few years ago. They found out I was vegetarian and made me a really solid veggie sub with egg plant chunks (that even with the skin on, was digestible, not bitter and good), onions and much more. Good dressing on it. They custom made the sub for me and the hit a home run with it. I was mad I got full so quickly as I wanted more but couldn't do it lol. One bad mark: the guys behind the counter blatantly were eating in a very "sloppy man" kind of way which kind of sucked. As a former employee of Mike Z (and this actual location) as well as having a father that had a pizza shop and pub for over 25 years, I understand how pizza shops really are. You eat on the job, your shirt is soaked with sweat and there is a sort of smart ass pack mentality. I get it. However, I would at least try to hide the fact that I was munching on an italian hoagie in between orders by turning my back or going in the back to take a bit. When I saw finger entering food into the mouth and those fingers touching the lips/inner mouth with no immediate hand wash, it wasn't a surprise to me (or gross) because I've been there...but come one guys...try to hide it at least. Not everyone is a former pizza shop rat like me. There was a general air to the place too that was very "smart ass" like. I'm not totally sure these guys wouldn't pull an immature prank on your food if you gave them too much of a hard time. Perhaps they were just hot as hell slaving over ovens for me and the rest of key west too, as I'm sure most people don't tip them. Go get the food, it's good!

Went into Mr Z's while having some Happy Hour drinks across the street at Krawl, right off Duval on Southard Street. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and the Pork Italiano. Both were made right in front of me. The staff was attentive and were very friendly. My sandwiches came out within 5 minutes and were awesome. I don't think I tasted the Philly but the Pork Italiano was incredible. My friends said the Philly was just as good. Great job! Will definitely visit again on our next trip.

Had the cheesesteak with the melted white American . Was ok for the area. I mean after all it ain't no original Philly cheesesteak. Am I in a rush to have another? Probably no much so. Do take note they're a cash only spot now but no worry there is a ATM across the street.

This is a delivery place that rocks it hard. The pizza is awesome and the cheese steaks are the best ive had to date, outside of Philly of course. We ordered many times last year and thought it was a fluke, but tried it again this year and realized that someone there just knows what they are doing. The tomato pie is really delicious, but the staff kind of sucks. I ate there during "dinner hours" one evening and had the same bad attitude that I got from them at midnight on my way home from visiting a friend. I would rather go hungry than be treated like I am lucky to be giving them business.

I will admit it, I'm a cheesesteak snob, but they do it right. They staff even has those south Philly accents that are a given at any cheesesteak joint in Philadelphia. If you're looking for a truly authentic experience, not to mention a damn good cheesesteak (and don't forget the roast pork italiano! Good but not great pizza. And pizza is a very personal thing; back in Las Vegas I knew people who swore by Boston Pizza (on Las Vegas Blvd near downtown) as the best, but to me Boston's was a loaf of Wonder Bread smothered in Ragu. Mr. Z's pizza is along the lines of New York-style: thin crust. I go for a spicier sauce, and more of it; that's where Mr. Z's pizza came up short for me. I can see other people loving the pizza here though, so your mileage may vary. The service was great and friendly. A pepperoni pizza had just come out of the oven and the baker pointed this out to us; we ate at the counter (another plus: they have a lunch counter) and pizza, more so than most foods, benefits from freshness. The specialty here is probably the Philly cheesesteak, judging from other reviews. I'll try one next time and update this review.

Firstly, I am a REALLY easy guy to please. Was so looking forward to Z's. When I called, the guy answering had obviously hated his job. I told him I wanted to use credit for a delivery and he said, I'll just cash from you. I called back and told him that I only had a card(not true, but this was a business expense). So, they DO take credit, but don't like to use the machine? I dunno. Pizza took a LONG time to get(approximately an hour for a "tomato pie") I waited in the house and never heard the guy knock on the door. My phone vibrated and dude said, "I'm getting ready to leave if you don't come get your pizza". I told him that I was sorry that I had my phone I vibrate. He said I've been calling for 5 minutes. I said, why didn't you knock on the door since I gave you the address and suite number. He said "Last time I knocked on that door, a guy got mad at me". For real bra? This is key west and a LOT of transients come through here. If I ordered the pizza, I ain't gonna yell at you. So dude never comes to the door and treats ME like an ass because I'm not running out to the curb to look for him. Okay, what about the pie? Crust was pretty good, but this was NO tomato pie. It was pretty good crust with tomato sauce. I ordered without cheese, but have never had a tomato pie with a thin layer of sauce. I'm used to actually seeing tomatoes or chunky sauce. This may be a matter of opinion, but the as for the rest of the experience, I will NEVER go back to these guys or recommend. You can be from Philly, but you don't need to act like an ass. Just be cool. My Philly wife rated their tomato pie as a 3 out of 10. Boo Mr. Z. I was expecting SO much more.

Nothing fancy just good pizza! Also had the cheese fries and I liked that cheese was on the side. Business hours are also amazing! Only downfall was delivery took an hour and the guy answering the phone didn't seem very hospitable. I Would order from them again.

Great find!

Legit Philly cheese stakes in Key West and we would know because we are from Philly! Thank you Mr. Z for moving to KW and serving the best pizza and stake sandwiches on the island. I have been coming to Key West for a few years and this place is a must eat for me every time.

Just had delivery from here...if you're in Key West, HURRY AND ORDER THE CHEESESTEAK SANDWICH! Honestly, the best sandwich I've ever had. Delivery was fast and everything was nice and hot. They do take credit cards.

    (4)
  • Tracy A.

Phenomenal philly cheesesteaks just off Duval. I am sure they are even better at 3am/. The melted american cheese philly was incredible. Be prepared to wait in line and sweat buckets in the summer. It's worth the wait. I'll be back next time I'm in Key West.

    (4)
  • Mark S.

not sure what happened to this place - I used to bring people here to eat because the philly's were so good - been coming to key west for 15 years and 4 years ago this was the best philly cheese steak i have ever had and the service was good - went last year and the cheesesteak was not good and tonight it was worse and the service was horrible. young boy with tatooed neck should not have a job period let alone service industry. I will not be back here and will be surprised to see mr Z's in business in a year unless its because there are just not enough places to eat

  • Pablo C.

had the philly cheesesteak....very well made...but would've like a little more steak in my sandwich... wifey had the cold cut sub...really close to new York deli taste

  • Rachel A.

Hands down the best cheesesteak I have ever had !!! The pizza showed me what I have been missing in California . And the Stromboli ? I had no idea what I was missing. Don't leave this island without eating here. It is change your life good.

Honestly, one of(maybe) the best steak and cheese subs I've had in my life. I'm from the northeast, we know steak subs. These things are good!!! Strongly recommended. Steak and cheese with mushrooms and banana peppers.

I stop by Mr.Z's for a slice of pepperoni pizza and a beer every time I go to Key West. It's the perfect quick, cheap pit stop when you're out drinking in Old Town.

  • Debra B.

    (2)

Great Philly atmosphere. Hole in the wall restaurant. Huge fries portions. Cheesesteaks were great! Very friendly staff

  • Joseph H.

we stopped at Mr.

Damn good pizza, especially when you're drunk. Also by far the best Philly cheesesteaks south of jersey.

  • Ryan C.

    (2)
  • Brian D.

Philly, american, onions, shrooms. - bein from Chicago i was a skeptic but man was it gooey and good. Hit it up for a philly and a beer. Screw the whiz do the american thats how its done! Good job!

I love Mr. Z's cheesesteaks. I do not love the 30 minute wait for a full pizza when there are multiple pies available. The excuse was they were single slices. Not impressed.
